The climate at Koh Samui

Thailand and Koh Samui in particular are primarily winter destinations, travellers usually come here looking for the sun but also and especially warmer temperatures than cold, sometimes polar, that is usually found in Europe.

Often, it is THE vacation of the year and we would like to make no mistake in choosing the period during which to travel in the Gulf of Siam and mainly the Samui Archipelago.

We will try to give you some information on this page to help you !

Koh Samui is a tropical island, its location in the Gulf of Siam make the climate very pleasant throughout the year.

Temperatures are relatively constant with minimum averages of 25°C rising to 33°C. However, two seasons can be distinguished:

      - a qualified "cool" (the term is very relative !) from mid-December to mid-January when the thermometer may, in some years, show temperatures of 23°C to 25°C at night or in the morning

       - another "hot" from the beginning of April to the middle of June, where this time the temperature often tended to 40°C in the shade !

The rest of the year, the temperatures oscillate between 25-26°C at night and at the beginning of the day until 32-33°C in the afternoon is a perfect climate to enjoy the beach but also the attractions of the island.

The temperature of the water is also often ideal because rarely below 26°C and more often around 28°C !

So yes, better to say right away, it is not necessarily always beautiful in Koh Samui, we mean sunny there.

The question to ask is not therefore at the temperature level but rather its sunshine ...

We often tend to say that if it never rains then the vegetation of the island would not be so lush and it would not have the charm we know it!

We can clearly distinguish a rainier season which is aptly described as the "rainy season" and which runs from the beginning of October to the end of December or even mid-January. The rains are more frequent and can even last several days !

We do not recommend these months of the year to plan a trip to Koh Samui or its archipelago.

Otherwise, the rest of the time, the rains never last long and are even for some months (from February to June) almost nonexistent !

But beware, in meteorology, there is no absolute rule and the years follow each other and are not alike !
